I have finally got back on the movie wagon. For the last month I just haven’t been on my game as much but I got the holidays and a couple of vacation days to catch up.

Sunday I saw New York, I Love You. I really liked it. It was not at as great as Paris Je Taime which I love and the stories weren’t as good and the film was not as cohesive but it was definitely enjoyable. It did remind me why New York is such a great place. I had couple of the stories I enjoyed more than others and surprisingly one that I like immensely was directed by a director I am not very fond of but nonetheless this installment was overall an enjoyable one.

Directed by Rob Marshall. Starring Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Kate Hudson and Judi Dench. The screenplay was adapted by the late Anthony Minghella and Michael Tolkin. It is loosely based Federico Fellini’s 8 1/2.

I really enjoyed Rob Marshall’s Chicago and I enjoy Fellini and this looking equally fun and entertaining so I am pretty excited about it.

In theaters December 25th.

This major career retrospective on Tim Burton (American, b. 1958), consisting of a gallery exhibition and a film series, considers Burton’s career as a director, producer, writer, and concept artist for live-action and animated films, along with his work as a fiction writer, photographer and illustrator. Following the current of his visual imagination from early childhood drawings through his mature work, the exhibition presents artwork generated during the conception and production of his films, and highlights a number of unrealized projects and never-before-seen pieces, as well as student art, his earliest non-professional films, and examples of his work as a storyteller and graphic artist for non-film projects. The opposing themes of adolescence and adulthood, and the elements of sentiment, cynicism, and humor inform his work in a variety of mediums—drawings, paintings, storyboards, digital and moving-image formats, puppets and maquettes, props, costumes, ephemera, sketchbooks, and cartoons. Taking inspiration from sources in pop culture, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as a spiritual experience, influencing a generation of young artists working in film, video, and graphics. I am very much looking forward to this. This whole exhibition could be something amazing. Tim Burton has created some most amazing and memorable films. His ability to mix the creepy and the magical and create something amazing never ceases to amaze me. If you are in New York over the next 6 months this should probably on your list of this to see.

I was trying to post this song yesterday but I gave up and I also knew Brit would be on it. I love me some Hot Chip and they get better and better with every album. This song is bit more aggressive and heavy but light at the same time. You can hear them but you can also hear some changes in their sound and I am not at all disappointed. NEVER.

Tonight on Glee the first song they covered was a cover of a cover. One of my favorite covers to be exact. Artie performed Nouvelle Vague’s version of Billy Idol’s fantastic ‘Dancing with Myself’. This is probably my favorite Nouvelle Vague cover right before their version of Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’. I haven’t listened to them in sometime which after tonight’s episode means I will probably be listening to them a lot for the next few weeks.

Also, tonight’s episode of Glee was pretty good by the way.

Tonight…….

New York Comedy Festival - Mike Birbiglia at Town Hall. It was pretty cool. He had a surprise band open. I was on pins and needles wondering who it was and very delighted to find it was Mates of States. Mike as usual was funny. He told my favorite funny story and one the many baby daddies I have was there……Ira Glass….with his lady (lame). My friend and I were getting a bit stalker-ish with very little success. This is the 3rd time I have seen Mike Birbiglia and love his comedy. He has great little stories that are a little sad and endearing but always funny.

Side note: The New York Comedy Festival is a huge sausage fest. What’s that about folks? Seriously. Were Sarah Silverman and Maria Bramford busy?

Yeah, folks. I got it and you know what I was thisclose to taking my punk ass down to the signing at Borders today but unfortunately my job owns me from about 930 to 6. I am actually really surprised at how much I love this show even with the minor issues I have with which I hope will work themselves as the show progresses (Mr. Murphy, I get black women are sassy!). But overall for me this is a pretty amazing show and I look forward to it every Wednesday. I mean I would have never thought a mash up of Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life” and Usher’s “Confessions” would be something I would like. Seriously, I think hell has frozen over.

What’s next? Am I going to start listening to Lady Gaga? OMG, that would be scary.

Tonight!!

Ricky Gervais did a special show testing out material for his New York Comedy Festival stint and future tour.

I enjoyed it. His humor is a lot more meaner and dirtier than one would assume but not all the surprising considering how dark and sad while funny The Office and Extras was.

This totally made up for not being able to get tickets to a screening of Up in The Air with Jason Reitman. Well, not completely but mostly.

Tonight at The Paley Center for Media there was a panel moderated by John Hodgeman with Jonathan Ames, Jason Schwartzman, and Ted Danson. They also showed the season finale of Bored To Death. Where the hell I was? Home watching to To Wong Foo (not that I have a problem with that). I follow the Paley Center on Twitter how fuck did I miss this announcement? I can’t right now.

Directed by Mike Newell. The screenplay was co-written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton , Alfred Molina and Toby Kebbell.

This looks like good fun adventure film and will be a perfect starter to the 2010 Summer Movie season.

I won’t lie it looks like a story that has been done before in some shape or form and the cast don’t even closely resemble the band but it doesn’t seem any less enjoyable. Directed by Sam Taylor Wood. Starring Aaron Johnson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Thomas Sangster, David Morrissey, Anne-Marie Duff.
